ME is called master of engineering and M-Tech is called master of technology, both are engineering disciplines. It's a two year master programme in engineering. It consists of various disciplines like computer science, electrical engineering, VLSI,  electronics and communication, mechanical engineering etc.

Difference between ME and Mtech



M.E. is known as Masters of Engineering

M.Tech. is known as Masters of Technology.

M.E. is more knowledge oriented.

M.Tech. is more skill oriented.

M.E. is usually designed for students who plan for employment upon graduation and who are already in the engineering workforce.

M.Tech. is designed to produce Research Engineers who can get the position of “Technologist” in the industries and research institutes.

M.E. emphasizes on in-depth concept clarification of facts.

M.Tech. emphasizes on practical exposure of conceptual knowledge.

M.E. is mostly preferred by private universities or self-affiliated colleges. For instance IIT.

M.Tech. is offered by colleges affiliated by various universities.

M.E. is a conventional term used for majorly theory based study. 

M.Tech. involves use of technology and other aided stuff.

Eligibility Criteria For ME/Mtech

Candidates completed B.E/Btech and with a valid score in GATE exam are eligible for ME/Mtech masters programmes.

Candidates completed 5years programmes in science or applied science are also eligible for ME/Mtech masters programmes.

Admissions to ME/Mtech is entrance based.

Mtech Entrance Exam

GATE, Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering is a national level exam conducted for admissions in Mtech and doctoral programmes in various government and private institutes.

GATE is basically conducted by 7 IITs and IISc, Bangalore.
